National Aeronautics and Space Administration Inorganic Photovoltaics Materials and Devices: Past, Present, and Future
نویسندگان
چکیده
This report describes recent aspects of advanced inorganic materials for photovoltaics or solar cell applications. Specific materials examined will be high-efficiency silicon, gallium arsenide and related materials, and thin-film materials, particularly amorphous silicon and (polycrystalline) copper indium selenide. Some of the advanced concepts discussed include multijunction III-V (and thin-film) devices, utilization of nanotechnology, specifically quantum dots, low-temperature chemical processing, polymer substrates for lightweight and low-cost solar arrays, concentrator cells, and integrated power devices. While many of these technologies will eventually be used for utility and consumer applications, their genesis can be traced back to challenging problems related to power generation for aerospace and defense. Because this overview of inorganic materials is included in a monogram focused on organic photovoltaics, fundamental issues and metrics common to all solar cell devices (and arrays) will be addressed.

متن کاملResearch Laboratory of Electronics
The Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), founded in 1946, is the Institute’s first interdisciplinary research laboratory. RLE grew out of the wartime MIT Radiation Laboratory and was formed to bring together physicists and electrical engineers to work on problems in electromagnetic radiation, circuits, and specialized vacuum tubes. Over the years, RLE’s research interests have branched in ...

Assuming the possible scenario ICCP RCP8.5, by 2100, the pH of seawater in Hengam coral reef in the Persian Gulf will decrease by 0.46 compared to 1880 (to less than 7.72). Total dissolved inorganic carbon will increase from 2006 to 2263 µmol/kg. The concentration of bicarbonate ions will increase by 24% and the carbonate ions will decrease by 51%. The saturation of calcium carbonate in seawate...

symposia in 1997 honoring the fictional birth year of the HAL-9000 computer. The other two were held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Illinois at Urbana, which is also the fictional birthplace of HAL. Our meeting was distinguished by reports on actual ongoing work toward building intelligent spacecraft. Representing government were attendees from the Nati...
متن کاملChallenges and Lessons Learned in the Application of Autonomy to Space Operations
NASA’s Space Operations Management Office (SOMO) working toward a goal of providing an integrated infrastructure of mission and data services for space missions undertaken by NASA enterprises. A significant portion of this effort is focused on reducing the cost of these services. We are interested in the potential of autonomy to reduce operations costs. Some attempts have already been made to a...
